Suzuki Verona Overview
Having started by producing a series of compact SUVs and subcompact cars,
Suzuki America expanded their product range to include larger cars.
In 1995, they introduced the compact Esteem to rival the Civic/Corolla in
the C-segment, and in 2003, Suzuki made the leap into the most competitive market
segment of all, the D-segment world of midsize cars. Although dominated by the
Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, Suzuki hoped that its Italian-styled and
Korean-engineered Verona would be spectacular enough to land a strong punch
in the midsize market. In Canada, thanks to Suzuki's ties with General Motors,
the car was also sold as the Chevrolet Epica. However, sales never reached
expectations; only 8,411 Veronas were sold in the States all of 2005, and after
three years, the Verona was pulled from the North American market.
