Saleen S7 Overview
Saleen's supercar was widely watched: the company's first own-built
road car was derived from the S7R Le Mans race car, and had
specifications that were dramatic indeed. At first, the S7 was regarded
with skepticism, as automotive journalists all remembered the first
American supercar: the ill-fated Vector W8. However, the S7
quickly proved to have more staying power than its over-hyped antecedent,
and became one of the most powerful cars on the market. It debuted in mid-2002,
but was a 2003 model. Incremental improvements increased power
in both '04 and '05. Visceral and elemental, the S7 shunned not only
traction and skid control, but also power brakes and airbags. It
delivered a raw driving experience unrivalled until the appearance of the
2006 Mosler MT900.
