Notes: The "Rototop"-equipped targa continued into its second year
for 2001 with revisions to interior trim, and ABS and traction control
provided. Despite the updates, the price was dropped, a probable reflection
of severe criticism. With the top removed (a 10-minute procedure), there is no
cargo space whatsoever; there is no space tire. With very shaky build
quality, and only a few hundred sold, the Mangusta is best regarded,
perhaps, as an eccentricity. Car and Driver soundly concluded that
the car was not worth the trouble, since other marques offer much better
cars for the price. High weight, poor handling, and execrable ergonomics
were the core of their complaints. Qvale was bought out by MG Rover after
the 2001 model year, and Mangusta production ceased. Even as of 2003, the
2001 production run has not been entirely spoken for.
