Notes: Add $5500 to the price of a 911 Carrera 2 and you could buy an
all-wheel drive model. But if you felt that this choice lacked oomph,
another $39,000 could get you behind the wheel of a 911 Turbo. Back with
a vengeance for 2001, the new 911 Turbo was more powerful than any
state-side model yet (excluding the limited-edition Turbo S),
and offered Porsche's Tiptronic manumatic transmission
for the first time. The engine itself was a twin-turbocharged
flat-six, a 3.6L model derived from the European 911 GT3. Large forward
vents, designed to feed the two intercoolers, helped distinguish the
Turbo from its lesser brethren.
