2003 Nissan 350Z
Body style(s): 2-door hatchback coupe
Trim Levels: base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring, Track
MSRP range: $26,279-$34,079
Notes: Nissan brought back its most famous label for 2003: the Z-car.
Returning to the origins of the Z (the Datsun 240Z), the new 350Z was
light, powerful, and reasonably affordable. Evocatively styled, the
new coupe was distinctly modern, while honoring its heritage.
The 350Z could breach 60mph in just over five-and-a-half
seconds with its high-output V6 motor, superb for a car whose starting price was well under $30,000.
In its last year, 1996, the 300ZX started at $3300 more than the new Z,
and in Turbo form cost almost $44,000. The new car was strictly a
two-seater, with limited rear storage. Replacing the Z-car 2+2 models of
yore was the Infiniti G35 Coupe, which was closely related to the new
Nissan model. Five trim levels were offered. The base model offered
automatic climate control with a cloth interior and a 6-speed transmission.
The Enthusiast model added traction control, a limited-slip differential,
xenon headlamps, optional manumatic transmission, and cruise control; the Touring model offered a leather
interior and CD-changer (the 6-speed version had an antiskid system).
Finally, the Track version offered upgraded
brakes and a rear spoiler; it only used the manual transmission.
The 350Z was Automobile Magazine's Car of the Year. The roadster
variant arrived as an early 2004 model.
