Notes
Few changes were made to the S-Class for 2002. A stronger air conditioning system,
revised telematics system, and the standardization of the power rear sunshade
were the only changes of note. The S-Class continued
to sell well, with many buyers appreciating its sleek new look. With a 0.27 coefficient
of drag, it was one of the sleekest sedans in the business. Although frightfully expensive,
the Mercedes flagship sedan continued to offer enormous feature content, with equipment
such as the standard suspension lift, which raised the car at the press of a button if the
road was rough, and hunkered it down at highway speeds, and the programmable lights,
which stayed on for a specified interval after getting out, illuminating the area around
the car at night. Keyless Go was still available as well, which provided a card that
could unlock the car automatically by proximity, and allowed engine starting at the push of
a button atop the shifter.
