Notes
Perhaps the brutally cynical marketing exercise in the history of
the automotive industry, the Lamborghini Reventón was unveiled in
2007 as a 2008 model. The "new" model from Sant'Agata was, in fact,
not really new at all. The chassis and substructure came from the
Murciélago LP640, as did the 6.5-liter engine, the viscous-coupled
all-wheel-drive system, the 6-speed E-Gear sequential manual gearbox,
and the windscreen. On the plus side, the Reventón did gain 10 horsepower
compared to its older cousin; the Murciélago's conventional 6-speed manual
transmission was not available. The changes to the new hypercar came from
the new bodywork, which Lamborghini claimed was inspired by the American
F-22 stealth air-superiority fighter. The styling was angular and bold;
the Reventón was one of the only cars that could make the famed Murciélago
appear sedate and restrained. Aside from the windscreen and mirrors, no
body panels were shared between the two models. The Reventón checked off most of the
items on the Murciélago LP640's options list: fifteen-inch carbon-ceramic brakes,
a navigation system, carbon-fiber interior trim, and a glass engine cover
were all found as standard on this absurd halo car (all of which would cost
about $39,000 extra on the LP640). The Reventón's seats were unique to the model,
being of carbon fiber construction with suede padding -- several reviewers
found them less than comfortable. The same materials were used throughout the
cabin, including on the steering wheel.
Only twenty -- all 2008s -- were sold, half of which came Stateside. All cars were
painted in the same flat grey colour, and the interiors were all grey/black, as well.
