1997 Infiniti Q45
Body style(s):
4-door sedan

Trim Levels: Q45, Q45t
MSRP range: $48,395-$52,395

Notes: Infiniti's Q-ship was redesigned for the first time in 1997, seven years after its introduction. It should have been renamed Q41, as the previous 4.5L engine was replaced by a new, smaller 4.1L V8, with a greater torque output. Infiniti was attempting to correct the sales imbalance between their flagship and Lexus's LS 400, so they opted for more conservative styling, and a greater emphasis on traditional luxury and comfort, instead of sport. A new chrome grille was the centerpiece of the newly conservative styling for Nissan's big rear-drive sedan. No traction control or yaw control was provided; only a limited-slip differential was available. Trunk space diminished by 2.2 cubic feet, a major loss in this class. The Q45t added a sport-tuned suspension, a rear decklid spoiler, and heated seats. The Q45 continued to compete, albeit marginally, with all of the top-flight luxury V8 sedans. Side airbags were a mid-year addition.
