Notes
A wagon version of the Elantra, dubbed the Elantra Touring, was added to the
lineup for 2009, the car's third year in its current iteration. It was an
interesting decision on Hyundai's part; there were very few wagons left in
the mainstream compact market, with the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe twins being
the most notable. In fact, a number of manufacturers (such as Ford and
Mitsubishi) had recently chosen to give up selling wagon versions of their
compacts, for lack of demand. The Elantra Touring used a modified
version of the Elantra platform, being based on the European-market
Hyundai i30 CW. For this reason, the Touring is covered separately.
Very few changes were made to the 2009 Elantra sedan, as the car entered its third year
in its current iteration. Hidden away under the skin, the suspension of both models
was tweaked, with a stiffer calibration for the SE trim. The electric steering was
also modified in an effort to improve steering feel; again, the SE was given a
sharper steering response.
