2003 Cadillac Seville
Body style(s): 4-door sedan
Trim Levels: SLS, STS
MSRP range: $45,270-$51,175
Notes: Having made several updates the previous year, including the
addition of a DVD player in the navigation system, Cadillac essentially
let the Seville stand pat for 2003. Although somewhat past its prime,
the Seville did outlast its closest rival, Lincoln's Continental, at
least in its extant form. For the first time, the price of the sportier
STS model breached the $50,000 barrier. Technically sophisticated and
cleverly executed, with optional wood interior, Seville was probably the
first Cadillac worthy of such expense. Although the new-generation STS
had yet to appear, Cadillac did reveal its luxury ambitions with the
Cadillac Sixteen concept, which debuted at Detroit. A concept car considered
briefly for production, the Sixteen remained a technical marvel, and an
illustration of what American luxury could mean. It is discussed on the
concept cars page. Seville would last only one more season before its
retirement.
