2001 BMW X5
Body style(s):
4-door crossover vehicle

Trim levels:
3.0i
4.4i
MSRP:
$38,900
$49,400

Notes: The Bavarian riposte to the SUV craze entered its second season with twice as many models: the 3.0i was added for 2001. Powered by the standard BMW three-liter inline-six, the 3.0i brought the X5 to a lower price point, some $10,500 lower than its 4.4i stablemate. The leather interior trim and self-levelling rear suspension were optional on this model, as were the 18" wheels standard on the 4.4i. Sales began to take off as the X5 represented the sort of luxury status symbol that many suburban professionals craved.
