2001 BMW 5-Series
Body style(s): 4-door sedan, 4-door wagon
Trim Levels: 525i, 530i, 540i, M5 [sedan]; 525iT, 540iT [wagon]
MSRP range: $36,045-$69,400
Notes: Incremental improvements again marked the 5-Series for 2001.
The 528i disappeared from the lineup, replaced by two separate models:
the 525i and the 530i, both equipped with newer inline sixes. The 525i
allowed a lower base price for the mid-luxury sedan. The 530i kept the
rack-and-pinion steering of the base model, but added the larger brakes
of the 540i. The headlamps were
restyled with a new bezel cover, and the taillights received LEDs. The
dashboard was also reworked to allow a new navigation system. This was
the only facelift BMW deigned to give its long-lived mid-range champ.
