2002 Aston Martin Vanquish
Body style(s): 2-door coupe
Trim Levels: base
MSRP range: $229,350
Notes: Aston Martin's latest and greatest achievement for 2002 was
the Vanquish. The new Aston was a big GT coupe, powered by the V12 engine
introduced for the DB7 Vantage in 2000. Although an exceptional grand
tourer, the V12 Vanquish was geared more toward the performance
muscle cars like Ferrari's 550 Maranello. Like its Italian counterpart,
Vanquish could be equipped as a two-seater, although the British added
available occasional seats. The Vanquish's engine drove the rear wheels
by means of a Magneti-Marelli 6-speed sequential manual transmission,
available with a full-automatic mode. One of three manufacturers of
these transmission types in 2002 (the others being BMW and Toyota),
Magneti-Marelli's sequential gearbox and its paddle shifters also found
a home in Ferraris, Maseratis, and European Alfa Romeos. Swathed in
Connelly leather, aluminum panels, and superbly modern instrumentation,
the Vanquish was widely hailed as a significant step forward and upward
for Aston Martin.
